The Indiana State Police is seeking the public’s help for information about a theft from an unmarked state police vehicle over the weekend on Columbus’ west side.

On Saturday, between 1:30 and 2:20 p.m., someone broke into the unmarked vehicle at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 2480 Jonathan Moore Pike, said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, Indiana State Police spokesman.

A Dell laptop computer, a Remington 12-gauge shotgun and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken, Wheeles said. The computer was an ISP-issued laptop, which is log-on and password protected and designed to be in lock mode once it is turned off.

A witness saw a newer navy blue minivan with a silver grill parked next to the unmarked police vehicle around the time the theft happened, Wheeles said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call state police detective Andrew Mitchell at 812-689-5000. Callers may leave information anonymously.
