East quarterback will miss game

Columbus East junior quarterback Josh Major, who sustained a concussion in Friday’s 30-13 loss at Columbus North, has been ruled out of Friday’s game against Seymour.

Major, who also is the Olympians’ punter, was injured in the second quarter making a tackle at the end of a long punt return by North’s J.D. Harris and did not return to the game.

Senior wide receiver Caleb Voelker took over for Major and led East on a third-quarter touchdown drive that briefly gave the Olympians the lead. Freshman Cole Gilley played the final couple of series under center.

East coach Bob Gaddis said Voelker will start at quarterback Friday.

“Caleb was our backup going into the (North) game, and he didn’t have that many reps,” Gaddis said. “He took as many reps as we could give him. He’ll take every rep this week.”
