ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An eastern Pennsylvania man accused of punching and biting his 1-year-old son has been sentenced to seven to 20 years after pleading guilty in the case.

The (Allentown) Morning Call (http://bit.ly/2bQPlT6 ) reports that 32-year-old Israel Lopez-Carmona of Allentown was sentenced Tuesday in Lehigh County Court.

Lopez-Carmona accepted responsibility for the boy’s multiple rib fractures, bruises and bite marks in December, saying he didn’t know why he acted as he did and then tried to hide the injuries.

The judge said his explanation that the injuries were caused by rough play-wrestling was “bizarre” and she couldn’t let him leave thinking what she called an “excuse” was acceptable.

The boy’s mother is also facing charges. Police say the couple tried to conceal the injuries by having the boy wear a hat.
