City workers help out in Kokomo

Crews from the city of Columbus’ Department of Public Works are working in Kokomo to assist cleanup efforts from last week’s tornado outbreak.

Four employees took four pieces of heavy equipment to Kokomo, including a front-end loader, two flatbed trucks and a lightning loader. They will remain in Kokomo through the end of the week assisting with cleanup work, including clearing fallen trees, city officials said.

“The city was pleased to have the opportunity to give back to another community suffering the aftermath of a natural disaster,” said Dave Hayward, executive director of public works/city engineer. “We feel it is our opportunity to ‘pay back’ all those municipalities throughout the state who came to the aid of Columbus after the flood in 2008.”
