BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 44-year-old Buffalo man is heading to prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a bystander outside a tavern last year.

Victor Irizarry was sentenced to 23 years behind bars on Wednesday in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Nicholas Jozens of suburban Williamsville in September 2015. Irizarry pleaded guilty in the case in July.

Investigators say Irizarry went home to get a gun after getting into an argument at a bar and fired into a group of people when he returned.

Jozens, who was struck once in the abdomen, wasn’t believed to be the intended target.
