RAMSEY, N.J. — Service has resumed on New Jersey Transit rail lines in part of Bergen County after a train struck and killed a trespasser.

An NJ Transit spokesman says the adult female was near Main Street in Ramsey when she was struck shortly before 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Service on the Main, Bergen and Port Jervis lines was temporarily suspended between Waldwick and Suffern in both directions.

Trains began running again shortly before 6 p.m., and NJ Transit says they’re operating with residual delays of about 40 minutes.

About 500 passengers and crew were on the outbound train from Hoboken to Port Jervis when the accident occurred. None suffered injuries, NJ Transit says.

This version corrects that the victim was struck by a train, not a truck.
