A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect along the coast of Connecticut as Tropical Storm Hermine moves slowly up the Eastern Seaboard.

The National Weather Service in New York issued the warning Saturday. It applies to southern Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven and New London counties.

Winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. The service is also warning of a dangerous storm surge beginning early Sunday afternoon.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The service is advising small boats and fishing vessels to stay out of waters south of New England.

Forecasters say Hermine could strengthen back into a hurricane Monday through Wednesday as it moves on an offshore path from the waters of Maryland to Connecticut.
