NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nashville police say the weekend drowning of a 10-year-old boy appears to be accidental.

In a news release Sunday, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department identified the victim as Irankunda Shukurn, whose family recently came to the United States from The Congo.

The statement says witnesses reported seeing the boy go into the deep end of a pool at a Nashville apartment complex and did not resurface Saturday. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

This story corrects the boy’s age to 10.
