ROANOKE, Va. — Police say that one person is dead and several others are injured after gunfire erupted at a Roanoke restaurant.

The Roanoke Times reports (http://bit.ly/2bWge9e) that the shooting began shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday at Monster’s Bar and Grill. Police say they showed up in response to “an unknown 911 call” and monitored the restaurant’s exterior before they heard gunfire inside.

Police say they saw people flee and drive away before officers found “numerous” patrons who’d been shot inside. Rescuers took several to the hospital, while several others drove themselves. Police did not immediately release the name, age or gender of the person who died.

No one at Monster’s Bar and Grill answered the phone late Sunday morning. City records list it as the Hookah Lounge Bar & Grill.
