PATERSON, N.J. — A man was shot to death inside a car, the latest incident in a wave of violence that has rocked the city in recent weeks.

The shooting was one of four that occurred during a nine-hour period from Sunday night into Monday morning.

The deadly shooting occurred Sunday night. Authorities said the victim was a Paterson man, but they declined to provide further details on his killing, citing the ongoing investigation.

Another shooting on Sunday night left a New York City man hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities said he was shot multiple times after he got out of a vehicle, but a motive remained under investigation.

The two other shootings occurred early Monday. A Paterson man suffered a hand wound, and a woman was shot in the foot a short time later.

There have been 60 reported shootings in Paterson this year, including 14 in August. Twelve people have been killed, and 56 have been wounded.

Police Director Jerry Speziale said police officials would be meeting during the upcoming week to review strategies for curtailing the surge of violence.
