Douglas Wheaton Elliott died August 30, 2016, in Gretna, Virginia. He was 57.

Doug was born in Philipsburg, New Jersey, Feb. 27, 1959, to Bruce and Katharine Elliott.

He grew up in Chatham, Virginia. After attending Chatham High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1978 where he served four years as a boiler technician and was honorably discharged in 1982.

After returning to Pittsylvania County, he worked a variety of jobs, including construction work at Danville Memorial Hospital and HVAC at GoodYear.

A lifelong musician, he was an accomplished drummer and rock ‘n roll singer. He also played guitar and enjoyed writing songs about good times spent with his friends. Known for his generous spirit, Doug was loved by many.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Ray) Morris; brothers, Scott Elliott (Nancy) and Ward Elliott (Charlotte); nephew, Elliott Morris; nieces, Rebecca Morris, Kaley Elliott and Contessa Elliott; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bruce and Katharine Elliott.

The family will hold a memorial at a later date. Those wishing to honor Doug’s memory may donate to a charity of their choice.
