MUSKEGON, Mich. — A blown tire may have contributed to a crash that killed two people in a van in western Michigan.

The crash occurred Tuesday on northbound U.S. 31, just north of Muskegon in Muskegon County. Sheriff Dean Roesler says the van was “totally demolished” and wrapped around a tree.

The Muskegon Chronicle (http://bit.ly/2cyNaVi ) says a third person was badly injured.

Witnesses told deputies that the van was passing a semi-truck when a tire failed. The van rolled several times before hitting a tree.

No names or hometowns were immediately released.
