ALBANY, N.Y. — A 24-year-old man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a woman to death inside the suburban Albany barbershop where she worked.
The Albany County District Attorney’s Office says Michael Chmielewski (chim-LOO’-skee) of Colonie pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder in the slaying of Jacquelyn Porreca (por-EE’-kuh).
Prosecutors say in exchange for his guilty plea Chmielewski will be sentenced to 22 years to life in state prison on Nov. 9.
Authorities say Chmielewski entered a barbershop in his hometown on the afternoon of Aug. 21, 2014, and stabbed the 32-year-old Porreca while robbing the business to buy heroin. She died at a hospital two days later.
Charges are still pending against his alleged accomplice, 33-year-old Sean Moreland of Colonie.
