MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — A 7-year-old boy who perished in a house fire in Rhode Island is being remembered by his principal and teachers.

The Newport Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/2bWdqu7) Forest Avenue Elementary School Principal Stephen C. Ponte sent an email to parents and staff announcing the death of Ramon Arroyo.

Ramon had just started the second grade when he was killed in the fire at his Middletown home Monday. His teenage sisters were injured in the fire and hospitalized.

Ponte remembered Ramon as a “wonderful, kind and happy student” who often encouraged new or shy students to introduce themselves to Ponte.

Camille Guerin, Ramon’s first-grade teacher, says Ramon was “remarkably thoughtful and considerate,” bringing her flowers on her birthday last year.

Ponte says counselors will be available to students and staff.
