ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. — A Vermont man arrested following a fatal stabbing at the Champlain Valley Fair has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder.

Twenty-year-old Jacob St. Amour of Williston is accused of stabbing 22-year-old Ryan Durkin, of South Burlington, late Sunday night. St. Amour was arrested the following day.

He was being held without bail after his arraignment on Tuesday.

Police were looking into what preceded the stabbing. Witnesses said the two were engaged in a dispute about an hour before the fair was to close.

This story has been corrected to reflect that the suspect is 20 instead of 21.
