WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Police say a Willimantic detective fired his weapon at a home invasion suspect after he attempted to run him over during a brief pursuit that prompted the lockdown of several area schools.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the Connecticut borough following reports of the attempted home invasion around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the suspect, a 56-year-old man, fled in a vehicle as officers arrived to the scene. During the pursuit the suspect allegedly attempted to run down a detective, who fired his service weapon. No one was struck.

The suspect ended up crashing his car on Spring Street. He attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended without incident two hours later.

Officials say the suspect is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
