BENNINGTON, Vt. — A Democratic state senator says he hopes the Vermont House will take up a form of marijuana legalization this coming session.

The Bennington Banner reports ( ) Sen. Dick Sears said Tuesday that the Joint Legislative Justice Oversight Committee will hold extra meetings this year to discuss several issues concerning marijuana, including the availability of medical marijuana.

The Senate passed a legalization bill last session, but it was defeated in the House. Sears says he’s hoping the House will take a look at it next session and work on a bill. He says he’s been approached by a number of people interested in starting a marijuana business.

The first meeting will be held Monday and will focus on the history of marijuana and its legal status.
