RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. — Campers have been evacuated from a county park and schools have canceled classes in southwestern Wisconsin where a flood warning is in effect.

Some roads are closed and sandbagging operations have started in Richland County, where more than 7 inches of rain fell by Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for southwestern Wisconsin until Wednesday evening. Sheriff’s officials say portions of Highway 56 near Viola and county Highway C near Yuba have flooded and sandbagging has started along the Pine River, which continues to rise.

The Richland School District canceled classes Wednesday because of the heavy rain.

In southeastern Wisconsin, St. John’s Lutheran School and Parkview Primary in Mayville were evacuated because of rising waters.

Campers were evacuated at Sidie Hollow County Park near Viroqua because of flooding.
