FLORENCE, Ariz. — Authorities in Pinal County have identified three inmates allegedly involved in the stabbing of a jail lieutenant and the assault of a detention sergeant.

County sheriff’s officials say 29-year-old Robert Villalobos and 26-year-old Santiago Sanchez reportedly stabbed the lieutenant while 25-year-old Mauricio Moraga is accused of attacking the sergeant Wednesday afternoon inside the county Adult Detention facility.

They say all three suspects are documented gang members and used shanks cut from their jail bunk beds.

The lieutenant was treated for multiple stab wounds to his torso while the sergeant sustained a hand injury that didn’t require hospitalization.

Authorities say Villalobos is in custody for 2014 charges of conspiracy to commit murder, robbery and weapons violations.

Moraga is awaiting sentencing for manslaughter while Sanchez is jailed for a 2015 weapons violation.
