“A GATHERING OF QUILTS” QUILT SHOW, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 1 and noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 2, Donner Center, 22nd and Sycamore streets. Presented by Columbus Star Quilters and Evening Star Quilters, this 17th biennial judged show will feature close to 200 quilts, six vendors and a boutique of fine quilted gifts for purchase. 13TH ANNUAL KIWANIS INCREDIBLE DUCK SPLASH, noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 8, Mill Race Park. After the Ethnic Expo Parade, follow “Kwacker the Duck” down to Mill Race Park for the 13th Annual Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash at Round Lake. Free Duck Splash events will include a Bounce House, coupons for a Dilly Bar from the Downtown Dairy Queen, Walgreen’s Health Tests, Indy Admirals Remote Control Boats and Photo Opportunities with some of your favorite “Star Wars” characters. All “adopted” ducks will be turned loose into Round Lake to compete for over $12,000 in cash and prizes, some even dropped from a helicopter courtesy of Columbus Helicopter. One lucky duck will get 10 chances to win a new car or $50,000. Remote control “Duckinator boats” will randomly select ducks to determine the winners. A free Don Miller Magic Show will begin at 1 p.m. while the winners are being determined. Winners will be announced at approximately 2 p.m. Ducks are available for purchase from any local Kiwanis member, at Midwest Computer Solutions and from any participating “Duck Buddy” youth organization listed on website, kducks.com. All proceeds benefit local youth organizations.

ATTERBURY-BAKALAR AIR MUSEUM at Columbus Municipal Airport. The museum preserves the history of the former Atterbury Army Air Field, later named Bakalar Air Force Base, and is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sundays and Mondays. Museum displays include a World War II era air base barracks building section showing barracks living at the former air base, and a WWII Army Air Corps operating rotating beacon and tower. View the pictorial air base timeline 10-panel presentation, Noblitt-Sparks (Arvin) WWII military products, WWII Tuskegee Airman and 71st Special Operations Squadron-Vietnam display kiosks. See the WWII Home Front display plus other interesting artifacts and historical air base displays including many large model aircraft of that era. Visit the museum’s Ernie Schorr Memorial Library. The John C. Walter conference room features a wall-sized mural of a Bakalar Air Force Base AC-119G Gunship aircraft.
