OZARK, Mo. — A southwest Missouri man was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years after pleading guilty to killing his wife and setting their house on fire.

KOLR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2cwM1xf ) 34-year-old Aaron Clemmons, of Ozark, was scheduled for a court hearing Thursday but instead pleaded guilty and was sentenced. Prosecutors had planned to seek the death penalty in the June 2014 death of Clemons’ wife, Bailey Clemons.

He also was sentenced for child endangerment, armed criminal action, kidnapping and arson.

Investigators say Clemons killed his wife while their two children were at home and then burned down their home. He reportedly said he tied his wife to a pole in the home’s basement before setting the fire.

The children were later found at a campground in Stone County.
