WASHINGTON — Police in Washington say a security guard was killed and a second man was injured in a shooting.

Police said in a statement Friday that officers alerted to a shooting victim at a southeast Washington firehouse on Thursday night found 29-year-old Evan Williams of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police say Williams, an on-duty security guard, was returning to his job site when he was shot, but they don’t believe he was the intended target.

Police believe Williams and another man found at a hospital with a gunshot wound were shot in the same incident. Police spokeswoman Rachel Schaerr says the second man was conscious and breathing, but police haven’t yet determined whether he was targeted.
