PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police are releasing the identity of an off-duty officer who they say shot his 19-year-old son during a domestic dispute this week.

They say Officer Dorion Young was inside his northeast Philadelphia home just before 6:30 p.m. Monday when he engaged in a physical and verbal altercation with his son. They say Young fired his .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol twice, hitting his son in the abdomen and back.

The 19-year-old was taken by ambulance to Aria Hospital and remains in critical condition.

Young is a 24-year veteran of the force and has been placed on restricted duty.

No other information was released.
