AUBURN, Wash. — Authorities say one person is dead after an Auburn police officer opened fire during a malicious mischief call.

KING-TV reports ( ) police responded to the call around 8:45 p.m. Friday to the 800 block of Pike Street Northeast.

Auburn police Cmdr. Steve Stocker says the officer fired during investigation and struck a person, who died at the scene.

Residents nearby told the TV station they heard three or four gun shots.

It wasn’t clear what led to the shooting and no details about the person shot or the officer were immediately released.

Authorities are investigating.
