NEW ORLEANS — One of six people shot in a New Orleans neighborhood has died, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday.

Authorities identified the victim as 63-year-old Earnest McKnight, who was shot in the head shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday.

New Orleans Police Department spokesman Tyler Gamble says McKnight was among five men and one woman wounded in the shooting.

Police say they believe the suspect intended to shoot someone and shot several bystanders in the process.

Police Superintendent Michael Harrison tells local media outlets detectives are looking into whether the shooting may be connected to any other crimes in the area.
