METHUEN, Mass. — Authorities say the death of a woman who was found unresponsive in her Massachusetts home is being investigated as a homicide.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement Monday that police discovered the woman while conducting a well-being check at a home in a Methuen public housing complex around 5:45 a.m. Monday.

The woman was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say it does not appear to be a random act of violence.

Authorities say the woman’s 4-year-old child was found unharmed in the home and taken to a relative’s house.

Police have not released the woman’s identity.

No further details were immediately released.
