PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Police are searching for the gunman who wounded an unidentified man following a shooting in Providence’s Federal Hill section.

Lt. Henry Remolina says the victim was shot on Manton Avenue just before 9 p.m. Sunday. He was found by officers near the intersection of Atwells Avenue and Lynch Street, where he collapsed after fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say seven shell casings were found where the shooting took place.

The Providence Police Department initially tweeted that several suspects fled the scene on dirt bikes, but it was later determined that the bikers weren’t connected to the shooting.

An investigation is ongoing.
