Homeland Security disaster exercise at Muscatatuck

JENNINGS COUNTY — The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is leading a full-scale disaster exercise for more than 300 emergency responders from various parts of the state that began Monday and continues through Thursday.

The exercise is at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in Jennings County and will simulate an earthquake scenario.

Participants will face a realistic disaster setting that includes flooded homes, debris-littered streets, multiple buildings and survivors needing medical attention. Management, technical rescue, mental health, law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services and K-9 teams will participate.

Other agencies taking part will be the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana State Department of Health, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Integrated Public Safety Commission, Ohio All Hazard Incident Management Team and the Indiana National Guard.
