BAY CITY, Mich. — A group of downtown Bay City entrepreneurs has put on a fashion show for a former model to celebrate her 105th birthday.

Audrey Gallagher was the guest of honor at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living’s party Monday, the day before her birthday, MLive (http://bit.ly/2cXd2xn ) reported.

Gallagher was born in Toronto, grew up in Detroit and now lives in Bay City. She used to appear in Hudson’s department store catalogs.

“I’m not sure if I could walk the catwalk today,” Gallagher said. “I’d need my walker.”

Brenna Zaplitny, the assisted living home’s director of activities, began the party by reading a statement from Bay City Mayor Kathleen Newsham proclaiming Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 as Audrey Gallagher Day.

“She’s one of the strongest ladies I know,” said Arlene Bush, who has known Gallagher for the past few years at the senior living home.

Laura Horwath, who owns a local women’s clothing boutique, helped organize the fashion show, which showcased the latest trends as a Glenn Miller Orchestra record played throughout the room.

“It’s absolutely wonderful that they did this for me,” Gallagher said. “It was beautiful.”

Pink sparkling wine was served to celebrate Gallagher’s birthday milestone.

“I can’t even walk straight now,” Gallagher joked. “And you want me to drink champagne?”

Despite the fun, this week has been difficult for Gallagher, whose grandson, Kerry Gallagher, 31, died Saturday, Sept. 10 from injuries sustained in a car accident the day before.

“It has been very difficult for her,” Zaplitny said. “We’re hoping this party can lift her spirits.”
