JACKSON, Ga. — Law enforcement officials in central Georgia are looking for a man they say shot and wounded a Jackson police officer.

Jackson Police Chief James Morgan tells local media that Officer Sherry Hall was doing a routine patrol early Tuesday when she saw a man sitting on the side of the road.

Hall went to confront the man and he became aggressive and shot her. The bullet hit Hall in the abdomen area of her bulletproof vest.

The officer shot back once, but it’s unclear if the suspect was hit. He ran into a wooded area and police are searching for him.

Hall was taken to a Macon hospital and is expected to be OK.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the search.
