A Stand Down event to provide information and services to veterans will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at The Commons, 300 Washington St.
The Stand Down provides a day of service to veterans relating to health care, employment, mental health counseling, homelessness and more.
A Stand Down for veterans is a concept that was created during the Vietnam War. It was named as a time away from the battlefield where soldiers could rest from combat and take care of personal hygiene, warm meals, receive medical and dental care and enjoy of the camaraderie of other soldiers in a safe environment.
Lunch for veterans who attend will be served and the VA will attend to offer benefits information. The event is free for veterans.
