INDIANAPOLIS — Longtime state official Carolene Mays-Medley is recovering after suffering an aneurysm.

Recorder Media Group, publisher of the Indianapolis Recorder newspaper, says the 55-year-old suffered the aneurysm at home Tuesday, was rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery. Mays-Medley was publisher of the Indianapolis Recorder for 13 years.

A Recorder Media news release Thursday said medical officials are optimistic she’ll make a full recovery.

Mays-Medley currently is executive director of White River State Park Development Commission. Former Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed her to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission in 2010, and she was a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 2002 to 2008.

Her husband, Fred Medley, said in a statement, “”We are grateful for all the prayers and calls of support our family has received this week.”
