ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The body of a 74-year-old Soldotna man has been recovered from the Delta River.

Alaska State Troopers say a military helicopter recovered the body of Daniel Mahan.

Troopers just before 3 p.m. Wednesday received a report of a man in the river after his all-terrain vehicle overturned.

Mahan was in an amphibious six- or eight-wheel ATV when it overturned in a deep channel.

Troopers, the Fort Greely Fire Department, the Rural Deltana Fire Department and personnel from the Army Black Rapids Training Center responded.

Ground rescuers could not reach the overturned ATV.

Medics on a Blackhawk helicopter deploying a basket were able to reach Mahan at about 5:30 p.m.
