Farrell Coons

Farrell O. Coons, 81, of Columbus, died September 14, 2016, at his home.

Farrell was born in Rushville, Indiana, July 23, 1935, to Harry and Bessie Clark Coons. He was a 1954 graduate of Rushville High School and attended Hanover College where he played efootball. He married Judy Teel, January 26, 1958, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Rushville.

From 1958 to 1962 he served in the U.S. Army and from 1958 to 1960 was stationed in Chinon, France, where he was company clerk for the 543rd Pipeline Company.

Farrell was employed by Cummins for 31 years, consulted there for another 10 years and retired in 1985 as an applications engineer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a 52-year member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge in Columbus. He enjoyed sports and coached PAL-BOC football.

He and his family enjoyed summers in Michigan and winters in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Farrell is survived by his wife, Judy; a son, Michael (Lisa Duke) Coons of Butlerville; daughters, Karen (Greg) Nichter of Columbus and Carol Morris of Columbus; grandchildren, Laura (Danny) Capes, Sarah Morris, Lindsey Morris, Adam Gearries, Ethan Nichter and Emily Nichter; two great-granddaughters, Audrey Garrison and Claire Capes; a brother Gale (Adele) Coons of Fishers; and a brother-in-law, Jay (Megan) Teel of Mentone.

A private service and interment will be held at a later date.
