Robert O. Ross, 86, of Columbus, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2016. at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born in Hope, Indiana, March 29, 1930, he was the son of Charly B. and Georgia Aikin Ross. He married Janice S. Francisco November 23, 1955, at First United Methodist Church in Columbus.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Several years ago he worked for GE in Shelbyville and in 1955 he was chosen to chauffeur Ronald Regan when he was representing GE in the area. He retired after 35 years with Cosco where he was a purchasing agent.

Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, the American Legion, Hope Masonic Lodge No. 150, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine, Bartholomew County Shrine Club and Columbus Elks Club. He enjoyed bingo, playing bridge and euchre, traveling, golf and watching any sporting event, especially kid’s events.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; sons, Gregory Lynn “Greg” (Shirley) Ross of Columbus and Timothy Robert “Tim” Ross of San Francisco, California; brother, Charles Taylor (Thersa) Ross of Columbus; sister-in-law, Rachael Ross of Greensburg, Indiana; grandchildren, Christine (Joshua) Owens, Melissa Ross and Russell Ross, all of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Lilian and Delila Priest and Ella Owens, all of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lewis Ross; and sisters, Mary Meier, Ruth Franz and Martha Robinette.

Funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Calling will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery with military rites by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
