Ice cream social slated along Torch Relay route

The Noblitt Falls, The Lagoons neighborhood in Columbus will hold an ice cream social at 5 p.m. Sunday on the lawn of the mansion once owned by the late industrialist and businessman Q.G. Noblitt. The historic home is located at 19th and Washington on the east edge of The Lagoons, a mid-century Modern neighborhood that Q.G. Noblitt developed.

The event has been recognized as an Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project, organizer Marilyn Brackney said.

Another part of the project is to watch the Bartholomew County Torch Relay as it passes in front of the neighborhood. Two of the neighborhood residents, Don and Dody Harvey, will pick up the torch at 20th and Washington Streets and carry it to 16th Street in their restored 1933 Plymouth automobile.

The torch relay begin its Bartholomew County leg at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday and finished at the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza around 7 p.m. that night.
