Conference will examine drug trends

Bartholomew County Substance Abuse Council will present a half-day conference on drug trends, the opioid epidemic and damaging messages about addiction and recovery Oct. 26 at Westside Community Church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd.

The free conference, entitled “Desperate Households,” will include the following speakers:

» Larry Perkinson, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.’s employee and Student Assistance director, giving the welcome and a brief substance abuse history.

» Columbus Police Sgt. Jay Frederick talking about America’s opioid epidemic.

» Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department Capt. David Steinkoenig talking about drug trends in the local community.

» Scott Watson, clinical addictions counselor and founder of Heartland Intervention LLC, speaking about what terms used in addiction and recovery really mean.
