NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Connecticut man is facing federal charges he attempted to hire someone to kill his ex-wife.

U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly says James Godiksen, of Clinton, was arrested on a criminal complaint charging him with murder for hire. Godiksen appeared last week before a federal magistrate in New Haven and was ordered detained. It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.

Prosecutors say the 54-year-old Godiksen offered to pay an undercover federal agent $5,000 to kill his ex-wife. They say Godiksen offered to pay the agent additional money if he also killed his ex-wife’s current boyfriend.

Godiksen was arrested Sept. 14 after prosecutors say he met with the undercover agent and provided him with a “down payment” of $80 that was to be used to purchase a knife.
