WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A boy drowned while swimming in a West Valley City hotel pool.

West Valley City police say officers were called to the Holiday Inn Express around 9 p.m. Saturday after 6-year-old Jordan Kalapa was pulled from an indoor pool.

A doctor who happened to be at the hotel performed CPR until emergency responders arrived.

The child was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead an hour later.

Police say the Salt Lake City boy and his family had been visiting another relative staying at the hotel. Several family members were swimming in the pool when they found the boy underwater.

But it is not clear how long he was under.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance video from the hotel.

The investigation is ongoing.
