Video: Bill Murray sings with Columbus band

Odds are that a notable person is going to find their way into Columbus band Oddz R’s performances every so often. Or so it seems.

The popular rock cover band saw three members of KC and the Sunshine Band jam with them for a song last month at The Garage Pub & Grill. In August 2012, the group jammed with some members of Foreigner at Fourth Street Bar & Grill.

The latest? Actor Bill Murray took the stage with them Thursday in central Kentucky at an event called The Whiskey Pig, part of the Kentucky Bourbon Festival. Group members noticed him before they started their set, and guitarist and vocalist Greg Allen spoke with him briefly.

Murray, still remembered by many for his Nick the Lounge Singer act years ago on “Saturday Night Live,” came on stage as the quintet began the 1972 tune, “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” by Looking Glass.

“The next thing I know, here comes Bill Murray storm-trooping the stage, jumping up there doing his Nick the Lounge Singer act,” said Reed England, a singer and guitarist with the group.

Murray was attending as a friend of a couple of the chefs, according to The Lexington Herald-Leader. The band posted two videos on its Oddz R Facebook page.

At one point in the tune, Murray comes over and throws his arm around England as the two harmonize a bit. England acknowledged the band had fun with the moment. And he laughed about who might be next to join the band.

“I’m kind of hoping,” England said, “that Jimi Hendrix will be resurrected.”
