Final Donner Park Variety Show of summer this weekend
Indiana’s bicentennial will be a bit of the focus during the final free Donner Park Variety Show of the season from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Donner Park shelter house near 19th and Lafayette streets in Columbus.
Columbus North High School choral teacher Janie Gordon and her 25th Street Singers will headline the evening, performing material from Hoosier composers such as Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter and Paul Driesser. They also will present more contemporary tunes such as Indiana native Michael Jackson’s 1987 pop hit, “Man In the Mirror.”
Also included in the program will be Kathy Dell’s Parkside Elementary School sixth-grade choir, local singer Guy Paranavitana, known for his gift with Frank Sinatra numbers, and keyboardist Danny Clark and his vocalist wife, Carola Clark, offering jazzy piano and vocals.
The Evening Kiwanis Club of Columbus, WCSI Radio and the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department sponsor the show.
