Lewis Dale Shrader Sr., 77, a lifelong resident of the surrounding areas of Hope and Shelbyville, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.

He was born March 9, 1939, near Sharonville, Kentucky, the son of James and Gladys (Hicks) Shrader

Dale is survived by his son, Lewis Dale Shrader Jr.; a daughter, Lisa Ann (Shrader) Karl; a stepdaughter, Irma Kay Jobst; grandchildren, Brian Dale Shrader, Megan Shrader, Christinia L. Bowen, Jamie Bowen and Austin Bowen; and a nephew, Kirby Carson Shrader.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Norman Shrader and Jack Shrader.

Dale graduated from Hope High School in Hope and obtained an associate degree from Ivy Tech.

His working career included several years of working with and for his best friend, Albert Schaefer. For 20 years he worked at General Electric Company in Shelbyville as an industrial maintenance technician and a State of Indiana Certified Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, then for 12 years at the Allied Signal Company in Franklin, as a maintenance technician/group-leader, a maintenance supervisor, a certified HVAC technician, a certified OSHA inspector and an instructor. Dale retired from Allied Signal when the plant closed in 1998. He then worked as a self-employed maintenance technician and a painter for several local businesses.

Dale was a member of IUE Local 836 AFL/CIO labor union, serving as president and vice president for 12 years.

He loved old cars and cold beer as well as good country music played by the Shrader family band members themselves.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Hawcreek Cemetery.
