AUBURN, Neb. — A former Peru State College basketball player is accused of stabbing three other Peru State athletes during an off-campus altercation.

Nemaha County Court clerk magistrate Nancy Hall said 24-year-old Jeffland Neverson, of Brooklyn, New York, was expected to be formally charged later Tuesday morning, but she didn’t know the precise charges. The Nebraska State Patrol says Neverson was arrested without incident Monday morning on charges of assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Court records don’t list an attorney for him.

State troopers are aiding the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office in investigating Saturday night’s stabbing. Investigators haven’t yet said what led to the altercation. Two football players and one basketball player were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neverson was a guard on Peru State’s team last year.
