SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder after trying to hang his pregnant girlfriend from an overpass.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2cmnvSU ) that Juan Echeveste Alba on Monday pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and a reduced second-degree felony count of kidnapping.

He is set for sentencing on Nov. 7.

Police say Alba was upset because he found out his girlfriend might be pregnant and she was uncertain who the father was. He took her from her home and drove her to the overpass, where he then tied one end of a rope to his car and wrapped the other end around her neck.

Firefighters found Alba and the victim and held him until Utah Highway Patrol troopers arrived.
