MONTPELIER, Vt. — The state Department of Labor says Vermont’s unemployment rate inched up one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.3 percent in August.

That compares to a national jobless rate of 4.9 percent.

The Burlington-South Burlington area led the state with the lowest unemployment rate of 2.9 percent, while Derby had the highest at 4.9 percent.

The Labor Department says overall Vermont’s unemployment rate was the fifth lowest in the country for August.
