OAKMAN, Ala. — A Walker County man has died after being shot while pursuing two burglary suspects.

Walker County Coroner Joey Vick tells local media that the victim has been identified 32-year-old Lyle Guthrie.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office says in a statement that Guthrie caught two men burglarizing his Oakman home Tuesday evening. The suspects fled in a vehicle, and Guthrie chased after them.

Deputies say the suspects shot Guthrie during the chase. The suspects wrecked their vehicle shortly thereafter.

Deputies were able to find and arrest both suspects.

Guthrie was airlifted to UAB Hospital with three gunshot wounds. He died shortly after arriving.
