Daniel A. Pieper, formerly of Columbus, died Sept. 9, 2016, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He founded Pieper Farm Service in 1967 and was a founder and first president of Columbus Bank, now Salin Bank.
Pieper was born July 10, 1925, in Dubois, Indiana. He married Margery Bowen in Monterey, Indiana, 65 years ago. They raised four children while in Columbus, Walt, Cathy, David and Joyce. Dan and Marge retired to St. Petersburg 16 years ago.
Pieper was a member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis. He was a member and former director of Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce and he was president and a 20-year member of Columbus Plan Commission.
The family plans a private service at a later date.
