Helen Gladys Bolton Hedrick, 90, of Columbus, went peacefully to be with her Lord from her home at 10:40 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016.

She was born at home in Jennings County, Indiana, on Jan. 31, 1926, to Ralph Hubert Bolton Grace Marling Bolton. She married Virgil Hedrick June 28, 1947, in Franklin. They were married for 63 years. He passed away July 15, 2010.

She graduated from Columbus High School and worked a short time for Cummins Engine Company where she met Virgil.

She loved to work in her flower garden. She also loved to sew and quilt and was a self-proclaimed fabric-holic, having made hundreds of articles of clothing for herself, her daughters and granddaughters. In her later years, she quilted many beautiful works of art.

She was a 4-H leader for several years and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church since 1940 where she was a Sunday school teacher and a treasurer for several years. She loved music and sang in the choir.

She is survived by four daughters, Susan Gubatan, Anne (Jerry) Williams, Jill (Keith) Foster and Gay Ellen Whipker, all of Columbus. She was the proud grandmother of eight, Sylvia (Rick) Fisher of Zionsville, Brent (Kathy Loftis) Gubatan of Athens, Georgia, Jason (Sarah Jacobi) Williams of Bloomington, Kimberly (Jamie Mix) Williams of Seymour, Kirk (Heather) Foster of Columbus, Cameron (Keri) Foster of Columbus, Andy (Dana) Whipker of Columbus and Abby Whipker of New York City. She also had four great-grandchildren, Kayla Williams, Landen Mix and Emersyn and Gavin Whipker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Forrest Marling Bolton; and a sister, Ruth Bolton Roller.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 11988 E. State Road 46, with Pastor Ancel Harden officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and 9:30 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church or to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
