Patricia  S. “Pat” Stanton, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, September 16, 2016, at Durgin Pines in Kittery.

Born on Sept. 16, 1937, to John and Anita (Fregeolle) St. Clair in Hartford, Conn., Pat attended Hartford College and the University of New Hampshire where she met her husband, John P. Stanton. After college, Pat worked on Wall Street in New York City.

Throughout John’s career they lived in Indiana, Tennessee, Texas and England.

An avid reader, Pat served as a trustee of the York Public Library from 1992 to 1999. At home, when she ran out of shelf space for all her books, she had bookshelves built in the bathroom.

Pat was also a collector of stamps and a prolific knitter of colorful socks. She loved to travel with her family and spent many happy vacations in the Dominican Republic, at Grant’s Kennebago Camps, Chebeague Island and Stearns Pond.

Pat is survived by her husband of 57 years, John; two daughters, Elizabeth Rosen of Portland, Maine, and Joanna Jones of Natick, Massachusetts; two sons-in-law, Tom Rosen and Warner Jones; grandchildren, Jack and Georgia Morris, Elijah and Yael Rosen and Zachary, Connor, Delaney and Max Jones; a sister, Joan Roof; a brother, Steve St. Clair; and nieces and nephews.

A private family ceremony will be held to celebrate Pat’s life.
