Police, firefighters investigating two serious accidents in Bartholomew County

BARTHOLOMEW County — Police and firefighters are at the scene of two unrelated serious accidents that occurred within minutes of each other this morning.

A dump truck and passenger car collided at about 9:37 a.m. at County Roads 450S and 50W and Lifeline helicopter was called to transport one patient from the scene, Columbus firefighters said.

At 9:58 a.m., another serious accident occurred at 8180 E. County Road 475S involving at least one vehicle, firefighters said. Columbus firefighters were called to extricate two people from a vehicle at the scene, with a report coming in that one person was trapped underneath the vehicle, firefighters said.

An air ambulance was called, but initially was unavailable and one victim of that accident has been transported by ground ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital, firefighters said. An air ambulance has since arrived by 11 a.m. and another patient was transported by helicopter, firefighters said.

In addition to these two accidents, Columbus Police Department is investigating a semi rollover at mile marker 64 on Interstate 65 southbound that happened at about 8:30 a.m. No injuries were reported in that incident.
